Determination seems to be something we either have or don’t have. Something that is granted to us due to fortunate circumstances and makes us determined people.
Even as a child, I often found it difficult to be determined when choosing ice cream. So is it a question of having or being, and what difference does that make?
To avoid getting lost in philosophical thoughts, let’s try to deal with this question in a practical way.
In my case, determination is not something I possess, but something I can learn. Regardless of whether I am a more determined person by nature or not, practicing determination can always be a process.
Determination is neither good nor bad. It is simply determination.
My suggestions for evolving your determination and you being a determined person:
• Observe your feelings when you make quick decisions or wait. How does one behaviour or the other affect you and your everyday life?
• Try to make confident decisions for yourself one day a week, regardless of how those around you react.
• Ask yourself what is really important to you and decide to do exactly that.
• Check whether the following quote by George Lucas applies to you and, if so, what conclusions you draw from it for your life:
“You have to find something you want so badly that you will overcome all risks, jump over every hurdle and break through every wall that always appears on the road to success. If you don’t have that determination, you will fail at the first major obstacle.”
